Bohey Dulang Island Tour

The viewpoint trail is the only constructed path on Bohey Dulang. It climbs 353 meters over roughly 600 wooden steps, switchbacking through lowland forest before emerging onto a volcanic ridgeline that overlooks the lagoon and the surrounding atolls of Tun Sakaran Marine Park. The ascent takes most visitors 30 to 45 minutes; the descent is faster but requires attention on the steeper sections. There are no guardrails along the upper ridge, and the final platform is a narrow clearing with space for a dozen people at most. Tours depart Semporna jetty in the early morning, usually between 07:00 and 08:00, and follow a set circuit: Bohey Dulang first for the climb, then snorkeling stops at Sibuan, Mantabuan, or Selakan depending on the operator and tide. The boat ride to Bohey Dulang takes 45 minutes to an hour. Most operators allocate 90 minutes on the island—enough time for the hike, a short rest at the summit, and the return to the beach. The park is accessible year-round, but visibility and sea conditions are best from March through October. November to February brings northeast monsoon swells that can make the crossing rough and reduce underwater visibility. The trail has no facilities beyond a basic registration hut at the beach. Carry enough water for the climb—there is no source on the ridge. Mobile signal is absent across the marine park. Operators provide snorkeling gear and lunch, but confirm what is included when booking. The conservation fee is collected at the park office on Bodgaya Island or by the tour operator before departure. Bohey Dulang is not a destination you visit alone; access is by chartered tour boat only, arranged through licensed operators in Semporna. Independent travel to the island is not permitted under current park regulations.
